I know it's not answering your question per se but ..... 20 years ago we had our farm yard alarmed with a series of beam alarms that covered the entrance gates and the whole yard area. The main office and other important buildings such as the office, small powertool shed, machinery shed, etc etc all had intruder alarms fitted. We had a MASSIVE master blaster siren fitted to the top of one shed (where it could not be tampered with) plus a plethora of really good halogen lights about on the place. You could not access the entire yard or buildings area without setting the whole thing off. This entire system was also connected to our farm house. If an intruder cut the locks to our gates to break in to the yard, they had 45 seconds of silence after actually walking or driving through the gates (quite a long time to think they had managed to gain entry successfully) and then the whole thing would go off in the most spectacular fashion :woot: ... the halogens would burst in to light, strobe blue boxes would start flashing, alarm bells would ring, the farmhouse would light up like a Christmas tree with all manner of sights and sounds and the Master Blaster would not only be scaring the bejesus out of the intruder but it was so loud they could actually hear it in the police station even though there was no dedicated link  . The whole effect was so spectacular that no would-be burglar wanted to hang about and so they would flee away always empty handed. This coupled with our mad large dog whom we would then let out to run down the yard first, ensured our safety when we went down to check what was going on. We were of the opinion that you cant always stop a determined thief gaining entry (even if like us you have tall locked yard gates) however once they are in you can create conditions that makes them not want to hang about a second longer than they should. CCTV is marvellous but I'd rather the scum bags leave BEFORE they've taken anything so that I don't have to rely on CCTV to identify them AFTER they have got away with my property. It was a specialist system but it has prevented several attempted thefts of trailers and tools and so it has been well worth it. And if you are troubled with persistent group offenders such as gypsies then word soon gets around that you have a very secure security system and so they will leave you alone. Not what you asked but just thought it might be of interest to you given your third break-in in 6 - 7 months.
