Waiting to see New Barton bull on the proof list. Hopefully soon. 🤞🤞

just bought a lot of calves, out of 'proper' fr cows, and it shows, solid and chunky, the AAx are better than the limx, and not far behind the BBx.

out of a tight spring block herd, and the size of the cheque hurt, but good calves, and worth it.
perhaps something the hard spring calvers, might like to dwell on, rather than chucking crap calves, in mkt, that make sod all.

then heard about a sprg herd, down with TB, euthanising all non replacement calves, but has to wait until the p/p arrives, just thought how fecking stupid, basically has to keep them a week, the bang.

@Holsteinfriesian90 rather hoping the processor read the post, l really cannot think of anything more pointless, or stupid. But l suppose its the mad world we live in. I suppose its better than making them live to 8 weeks.

the other point, re calves, and value of, is also relevant, so many useless calves are just a waste of time, effort and money. Accept the ones we bought were out of good fr cows, by AI bulls, but the use of better bulls, on the xbred herds, could easily bring a price of £100 +/-, instead of £1 or so, which would be very welcome, we paid over £200 av, and reckoned we had a good deal.

I don’t think arla thought the 8 week old rule through hear of some farms keeping them 8 weeks then sending them to slaughter. What difference does it make if the are 8 days or 8 weeks.

looks a good idea, from the retailers point of view, in that it can be manipulated to show compassion, and 'care' to the consumer.

the actual truth is very different, their point of view is simple, profit comes first, and sod everyone else.
