is there any Ultra running farmers on here?

As the title says, interested to see if many farmers on here enjoy distance running? I know of a couple, one chap in my Nuffield scholar circles has done the Winter Spine, it's on my bucket list, just tough to train for in Essex! did a 104 mile race in may so am building up!

The future Mrs Oyke did a 30 mile ultra last year. I went to watch and noticed the absense of anyone with any form of manual job. All middle management tyres.

A mate has tried the Winter Spine at least once, he DNF last year due to hypothermia.

My brother goes upto and beyond Iron Man distance triathlons, frankly, I have nowhere near enough time to train properly for them, it's a struggle to get the training in for a half marathon now with my job, though Idid manage a 1:25:17 half, not sure I could do it now.

Not sure on the longer ultras but in the shorter Fell running races in the lake/dales many of the top runners are from farming stock 💪🏼

no more than 10k for me unfortunately
Spending all day on my feet fencing I struggle to train as my legs and feet get very sore after a while, my job is slightly to physical to train during the week, I can do it but if I do to much for to long I end up getting run down
I hope it’s something I can do one day

you'll have a good level of fitness. From what I can see, the training for ultra distance races is about getting your mind in the right place and making sure your kit is right for you. You really can't skimp on the training
well done on your 1.25 half, that's very impressive!

the training in my mind is just time on feet, I run 5-6 days a week and do strength three times. but like you say its all in the head!

the fell running looks great fun, wish we had some of that in Essex!

did a 50k 2 years ago, would like to try a longer race. but last summer was on a rowing expedition in the Arctic, rowed over 1000 miles doing 2 hrs on, 2 off, eventually had to stop in Cambridge bay due to bad weather.maybe going out next year to finish the expedition.
wow that's impressive!

ive watched a few programmes on people rowing/sailing round the world etc, I'm a keen fisherman and have always wondered if you have a line over the side as you go along and try to catch fresh fish?
