Id lamb a lot later if I was you , sounds like the logistics are for fair weather!Going to have to figure out a way to get feed to the ewes, if this rain carries on, as they look in a sorry state. Would be up to my axles in no time if I used the tractor or truck. Jet ski might get there or a tracked snowmobile! Worst option is to carry a bag for a mile, that'll test my heart out
Gateway handy, Are you able to feed on the field where they are?Going to have to figure out a way to get feed to the ewes, if this rain carries on, as they look in a sorry state. They're in two hill fields, could bring them all to the lower field which is only about 1/2 mile across the swampy field and feed them there. Would still have to carry the bag and hope I don't loose any lambs in the stampede. Never been this bad here before.Gateway handy, Are you able to feed on the field where they are?
How far from the roadway are they?
Tried that too, then the drought hit.Id lamb a lot later if I was you , sounds like the logistics are for fair weather!

Our neighbour says I lamb to early , yet the last 4 years we had dry if cold springs ( I see their point if only for grass growing)Haha funny guy i went for May 1 year. Weather had been great, then sleet and snow. On May 1.
Is there no sheds in the locality you could use for 6 weeksTried that too, then the drought hit.
It's a lottery with the weather...just got to roll with it. Last year in march they were sunbathing on hard ground.
Got my shed, full with ewes and lambs and about 45 left to lamb. Had to turn ewes and lambs out because I was running out of somewhere to stand. This year got more sheep as I held on to alot of last years hoggets so I could cull out some of my older ewes after weaning this year and have a younger flock. Is there no sheds in the locality you could use for 6 weeks
I've thought about it, but always find something else to use spare money on. Usually use the truck but this year it's impossible. A waiting game now, the sun has to come out sometime, doesn't it???Our neighbour says I lamb to early , yet the last 4 years we had dry if cold springs ( I see their point if only for grass growing)
@Jonp what about an el cheepo quad bike ?
Very handy ( especially with a snacker)
Doesn’t need to be owt flash ! We made do with a 2wd trx 300 for years
I really hope so Jon ! I know what you mean though always something to take your cashI've thought about it, but always find something else to use spare money on. Usually use the truck but this year it's impossible. A waiting game now, the sun has to come out sometime, doesn't it???
Mmmm. Youngest is having her first baby in July. Her mother (the rabid one) is really getting her down, probably because they're much the same, so as soon as lambing is done I've got to sort out the static she's bought as she cannot live with her mother any longer. Got to get back to work too so...when the going gets tough etc etc etcI really hope so Jon ! I know what you mean though always something to take your cash
Yes been there , nothing worse than a rabid ex!Mmmm. Youngest is having her first baby in July.
