They've only got go say blah blah blah to the press for a few more months , then it will be election and they will be on their gold platers or onto the lords ( or both) for their outstanding contribution to the job ...

Someone gave the example of tb testing
We have just come off three years of tb testing every 6 months that’s 12 days a year for 2 people just doing that then there’s all the pre movement testing in between that so roughly you could say that’s one month a year gone for one member of staff so in the last 3 years there’s been 3 months gone tb testing
I can see why you are sometimes a bit peed off with some of the big mouth arable Tffers who bray about their property portfolio or most recent ski holiday..

i’ve got a lot of expensive seed sat waiting to drill with a very expensive drill and tractor to get my “money for nothing”

bps was beyond argument money for nothing - i’ve seen the BNG that sfi option deliver on my farm already and it’s a dramatic and positive thing that tax payers are definitely benefiting from, it’s certainly not “nothing”
accompanied my wife to one of her work colleagues party at the weekend where as usual i was bombared with farming questions,

i took the chance to ask them what they thought about the thousands of acres of land in england going out of food production into wild bird seed/env schemes, none of them had a clue about any of it and basically told me a farmers job is to produce food for people not birds

new range rover, new skis, nice holiday etc etc ……. it wasn’t a subsidy ever given to farmers ( they just pretended they did !) , it was a subsidy for landowners and there is no way you can justify that to tax payers, it REALLY did take the pee ……. as a landowner (who farms) at least i can be honest enough to admit that

sfi is somewhat better in that respect but stil missed opportunity - the key to ag subs is making sure FARMERS get them not landowners (investors) it’s not easy to achieve that however

the cap is a good idea in that respect BUT this inconsistency and moving of goalposts really is not on when we are making often life changing business decisions
its easy to justify the return to the taxpayer you just dont want to it doesnt suit your narrative

simply explain the return to the economy and their pocket through the effect of lowering domestic food inflation by having home produce to compete with imports

its not a coiincidence we are seeing mass dispersals followed by all time record beef and sheep prices in the UK currently.........you just wont admit the facts staring you in the face,

wild bird seed =0 =return to the taxpayer

domestic food supply, jobs, food security and lower prices from bps = good value to taxpayer

Would a full BPS payment today be worth about ÂŁ300 per Hectare if it existed? A figure like that would sure help pay the rent?

ÂŁ88/acre i believe and getting smaller in real terms each year anyway with inflation, when you think about the amount of jobs, food production and rural economy this supported especially in livestock areas it really was fantastic value

You think the tax payer in the towns worried that they cannot afford the next mortgage payment give a toss about BNG on your land? You are delusional if you think people want to see fat birds in the countryside while some people go to bed hungry!.The bps could be argued to the general public that it keeps the food price down, the sfi can not
