Well they couldn't be worse :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
oh i dont know, small holder near us years ago, was having trouble pulling the plough with his little tractor, asked my old boss what to do to get it to plough, boss said "just unbolt a furrow off it, a 2 furrow is easier pulled than a 3 furrow"

next day we went past, he had ploughed most of a 7 acre field, what a fecking mess, he had unbolted the front furrow, left the 2 back ones on

I've just called him again and I got a better answer this time, it is on grassland and there is a mistake with the entry form as the person who made them forgot to put a place to put a class on it so he told me to write on it which class I want to plough in.
So, all we need now is a list to choose from! As its on Grass, I would like to come up. Will need to spend a few more hours on the lorry every day to get it finished though!

MMM I would like to have heard the late John Gwilliams view!He is on record telling the vintage class at Cowbridge match that they should be done for murdering good ground!

As it is on grass what chances are there of making a decent job of ploughing it in late June ? we would need some serious rain to make it a goer, from all the above comments and lack of response from organizers ( And Bob's summary of the job) I am staying home

You know the land in your area far better than most Roy, but, for example, Yesterdays Farming held in mid August has been on grass and it ploughed well. The required amount of rain may well arrive, there is quite a lot promised for next week.
If they will have me, I hope to go, its a chance to bring match ploughing to the attention of people who otherwise would never see any,and if we can gain a couple of new competitors it will be worth the effort.
The organisation does seem a bit " unusual" but its so easy to say," lets have a ploughing match," when you dont know the amount of work involved in running one, I am sure its come as a bit of a shock to those in charge!

It is quite a way from my immediate area and as you say there is rain forecast but turfs are already bone dry and the match is the other end of June, you will need rain on the run up to match day to make it plough well, I find little or no pleasure in ploughing bone dry land, Sarn match was dry enough by all accounts and the weather is drier now than then, locally farmers have been taking Westerwold catch crop grass and ploughing it up for maize, where it was subsoiled for Westerwold establishment last autumn ploughing has been acceptable but where it was scratched into the top of stubble ploughing has been difficult, even with heavy modern reversibles

Sarn was dry, but ploughed well enough, and I must agree that ploughing concrete is far from rewarding, however, I live in hope! But as the organisers have yet to give me the promised call back.........!

We are not having what I would call a dry early summer but heavy ground has been well cracked open and tramline bottoms have cracked allowing water to disappear, traveling is not a problem !
