Well they couldn't be worsewell the 3 furrows slightly to the right of the middle of the photo are much better than the 3 to the left of them
oh i dont know, small holder near us years ago, was having trouble pulling the plough with his little tractor, asked my old boss what to do to get it to plough, boss said "just unbolt a furrow off it, a 2 furrow is easier pulled than a 3 furrow"Well they couldn't be worse
next day we went past, he had ploughed most of a 7 acre field, what a fecking mess, he had unbolted the front furrow, left the 2 back ones on

So, all we need now is a list to choose from! As its on Grass, I would like to come up. Will need to spend a few more hours on the lorry every day to get it finished though!I've just called him again and I got a better answer this time, it is on grassland and there is a mistake with the entry form as the person who made them forgot to put a place to put a class on it so he told me to write on it which class I want to plough in.
There was steam ploughing last weekend at b a country stores vintage weekend, up at dunecht, Aberdeenshirewhere can you see steam ploughing?
Ah well, he still has to perfect it, for best results each furrow must sit on its side with a gap between each, A very skilled operation.Don't tell him that he'll get big headed
As it is on grass what chances are there of making a decent job of ploughing it in late June ? we would need some serious rain to make it a goer, from all the above comments and lack of response from organizers ( And Bob's summary of the job) I am staying homeSo, all we need now is a list to choose from! You know the land in your area far better than most Roy, but, for example, Yesterdays Farming held in mid August has been on grass and it ploughed well. The required amount of rain may well arrive, there is quite a lot promised for next week.
If they will have me, I hope to go, its a chance to bring match ploughing to the attention of people who otherwise would never see any,and if we can gain a couple of new competitors it will be worth the effort.
The organisation does seem a bit " unusual" but its so easy to say," lets have a ploughing match," when you dont know the amount of work involved in running one, I am sure its come as a bit of a shock to those in charge!
