When you take it off if you can't turn the gear with your hand freely it's the magnets that have broken it's easy to open up starter just remove the 2 bolts then the end cap and then pull out the armature you will then see whether the magnets have broken or not they can't be replaced I did...
If any one has any idea where to source a good replacement brand other than the original Mitsuba SM18 Model please let us know I'm stuck for one as mine is an American model 420 which dosent have the pull start on it
It's the starter motor magnets bonding glue that has given way and the magnets have broken
which in turn locks up the starter armature Io have 2 New starter motors put into a 2008 420 1 origional and one Chinese and it's gone again there a rubbish item in my opinion
May not be same issue but have a 2008 420 here that was cutting out and stalling when it got hot worse in hot weather it would drive fine when cold but as soon as it got hot it would start acting up changed the fuel pump 3 weeks ago and its been fine since it had been doing this for the last 2...
