Honda Overheating

2010 ish Honda 420, fuel injection, doesn't like running its cooling fan. If it doesn't get a decent turn of speed it gets hot, bothered and chugs. Rarely the fan will kick in but only runs a short time.

I replaced a temperature sensor beside the spark plug this week, to no avail. This seems to be the right one as the fan runs when the wire is disconnected. If the collective believe the controller is knackered, I think it will gain manual fan control.

Cheers.

got an old foreman years ago and buy passed the sensor with a switch one day in a hurry when spraying in long grass and the bike was getting hot , never did get round to hooking it back up , just flick the switch after the bike has warmed up .

May not be same issue but have a 2008 420 here that was cutting out and stalling when it got hot worse in hot weather it would drive fine when cold but as soon as it got hot it would start acting up changed the fuel pump 3 weeks ago and its been fine since it had been doing this for the last 2 summers seen a few reports of this on the Honda forums and no one had a definite answer as to why it happens some think that fuel is vaporizing when it gets hot hence drop in fuel pressure leave the bike sit for a few minutes and away it went again get hot again and chug and stall again had to leave it in the field on more than 1 occasion
Should say mine's an American import ( the one without dash clocks )
It's also the fuel injection model

The one we had on the dairy farm was the same, dodgy fuel pump but only ever gave trouble when hot, following cows, towing a trailer or sprayer etc. Would always conk out about 50m from the assistants' house too.. then again he cleaned it about the same time it was due to go up in flames, basically just a big ball of dung behind the plastic :cry::cry: it was also an efi model

my 09 plate fuel injacted 420 was the same when hot, there was a filter up grade done on mine, it moves the fuel pick up point in the canister and cured the stalling when hot.

I had the same issue, dealer gave it a service, but when weather got hot again and the fan came on, it started spluttering again and wouldn't move much!
Read on an American forum changing the fuel filter could help,so I ordered a new one. It was a bit different to the old filter, but it solved the problem!

Thanks all. The fuel lead is well worth following up as it sounds a bit like fuel shortage and is probably more frequent if the tank is low. Usually starts occuring around the point the fan kicks in so maybe not over hot at all, though does smell toasty.
