Had a listen to Harrys Farm over weekend. Sounds though him and his neighbours opting out of growing crops.
Why work when you can get benefits ;)

I wonder are all these schemes going to overtake having your land contract farmed as the new money making/tax avoidance schemes for landowners who don't want to do much?

Are contract farmers losing acres?

The forum seems a little split on this topic, there's some dislike over all this alternative land use, but there are also those who say it should be up to the landowner to decide.

I think there should be rules around land use to ensure it is used for the thing it is best suited too.
Think I'm about the only one with this opinion though🤷‍♂️

you put the solar on the roof of a new houses, job done.

well position solar on a roof ideally integrated into the roof fully, in a well-built home, (if its, a well designed and built home), can provide the majority of that home's energy on average for the year. so, its heating, hot water, and electric. and there is no need for it to have oil or gas heating.
Well designed and well built homes in the UK?

There is a fairly robust planning process tbh. However, stewardship schemes, rewilding, and tree planting are outside the scope of it.

If that solar park will only produce enough electric for 130,000 homes, how can you have targets of building 300,000 extra homes a year? wheres all this land coming from to build on, then build the giant solar parks to power them ? Answers please?
The land is coming from the hundreds of landowners trying to get their land passed for houses or other projects that will vastly increase its value.

Do you think there should be controls on what good food producing land should be used for?
Do you own or have you sold land for building yourself?

I think that would only apply to a tiny proportion of homes, that are super insulated.

jeezus...pass the sick bucket.

The article is so full of disinformation and outright nonsense that it's almost comical.
I couldn't give a tinkers curse what these people do with their land, I just wish they'd stop pretending they're so feckin clever and self righteous.

I'd like to have confidence in that but you must remember that food cannot be too expensive globally or else there's riots. Whatever happens food will be cheap somehow whether thats subsidies for Inputs, outputs or direct to the smarkets. Farmers are very unlikely to see much wonga out of it in any case.
f**k me we may as well jus give up now then….

I believe solar panels today are ten time more efficient today than they were ten years ago. With that rate of increase in future they will do a lot of heating even if some escapes.

Not even close

"In 2002, panels averaged 13.6% efficiency. That range increased to 19% to 21% by 2021, with most homes installing panels with a median rate of 20.1%. Today’s solar panels average 16% to 20% efficiency. Anything above 20% is considered a high-efficiency panel."

Yup, they've not even doubled in efficiency in twenty two years.
