Had a "significant" birthday recently and woke up to this most wonderful surprise present from my wife and parents

1961 series 2a (so still older than me at least !) - I'm the 27th registered keeper, in a long and interesting well documented history, had chassis replaced with galvanised one a few years back as part of a sympathetic restoration / engine and transmission rebuild but mostly very original


Oh and ............ tax exempt, MOT exempt and ULEZ exempt, £85 insurance premium - even makes my electric car look like expensive motoring !

Have ordered a canvas top already and fully intend to use it every day through summer for work ....... (well work thats within 5miles of home anyway !)

if anyone has a pickup tailgate to work with the canvas top sat in the back of a farm workshop anywhere please let me know, scouring ebay but they are all in terrible condition, new is available and isn't too expensive but wouldn't look right IMO

Yeh she's a pretty lady, I just got myself a series one in pretty much the same condition as your S2
tax and mot exemption really counts for something these days and the cheap insurance,Im thinking of getting another for the farm work feeding and checking stock ect,Way to go!
You could try landyzone for a tailgate there very helpful on there,just put a post up.

Landrover own Bowler now - it’s likely to be their “cosworth” / “amg” brand in the future and i’m told they are building a works rally / desert raid team for LR based around new defender

made their name building Paris Dakar racers and hill rally cars like the wildcat etc and modifying / refining Defenders to make them actually any good (they are terrible standard !)

the rest of the shed is not for tff

defenders tend to get recycled round here into other defenders...

do agree that unless VERY secure, then they gone.
I wont have a quad on the farm as know all the sheds would be broken into till they found it.
