When ploughing a turf there is a very fine balance between enough depth to make sure turf is not dragged up during cultivations and too much depth which stands furrows up too much, also skimmer depth is very important as everything you put under the furrow slice will have the effect of holding the furrow open,
You won't be too disappointed if you manage to set them up like that in the turf at Sarn in a few weeks time Will

I am no grassland specialist but the observations that I have made are that skimmers must be set exactly the same, well forward if possible to turn the strip into the bottom and completely separated from the furrow slice. Nice thin KV type are ideal. Any old stubble shovellers won`t do.

Not Bringing up too much turf after is also the responsibility of the man working down or drilling.

As John said, not being there and not knowing the ground is a handicap. But, I would have expected a sharper crest, and a more whole furrow look about it as your on grass. The open furrow seems to be too wide, you only need it wide enough to get your tyre in, and thats a 12.4 tyre, not an 18 30! Making it wider than required breaks the work and makes the plough hard to pull. Skims should take off the bare minimum, or there will be letter boxes everywhere.
