You should give it a whirl. show us the true side of NZ dairy herds. I had this 20 year old kid ask me about how cows get to new zealand. i told him that they are parachuted in. got any pics of that?

so whats the weather patterns like in ohio?

On the average, Winter is cold and snowy, spring is cold and wet till may, summer is hot and humid, fall is hot and dry then cold and dry some wet seasons here and there.

so you have defined weather.some years we dont see cold enough here and the fly gets bad.
good frost this week so hopefully less this summer.

where your maize crop was is very clean , do you plant something on the field after the maize is cut or is it replanted the next year with maize what type retation do farmers use there , and is the maize GM what spraying is done on it @aggravated farmer , grate blog please keep it up if you have the time

We plant cover crops on some fields that have high compaction from running forage wagons. We rotate our crops yearly, with the exception of alfalfa fields being rotates every 4-5 years.

what is the return on alfalfa? i quite fancy growing that.

your farming is very like what most french farmers do , alfalfa here lasts only about 3 years , but in some areas can last 5 i am told

We've had 6. Some people here don't replant their hay fields, and eventually become weedy.

We can get 4 cuttings a year, we don't sell any if that's what you mean.
