Maybe I'm wrong but nothing can be improved whether it's BT or sky as it's all done down the same phone line?:scratchead:

Waiting for them to do the line test but think we're gonna cancel anyway and probably go down the mifi route.

they can defintly improve it, if they want to, they said its cos i live too far from exchange, i just said thats a load of rubbish, my boss has 2 offices running at least 2 different buisness 300 yards further up the road, he gets excellent broadband

Quickest down the line we can get here is 512mb :confused::poop::banghead:

So gone down mobile broadband route. Except that Vodafone and 3 reckon we are on the outer edges of there 3g coverage (n) according to there maps.

At first had a Vodafone dongle rigged up to home pc at highest point of house which gave low level, intermittent 3g coverage that was limited to the pc only:(.

Through the buying group we members of were told about a product called a WiBE. Basically you put the sim in the top and it does the rest. Its got 4 ariels in it that are considerably bigger than the finger nail sized one in a dongle. It uses them to search for the strongest signal from the transmitters in the area. Locks on to the best one. Got a wifi system in it too.

Its transformed internet access here. Wasn't cheap, £200+ but the difference is huge. OH can watch i player with me looking at tractor porn videos, no buffering.

Really really good.:)(y)

I have tethering included on my contract with 3, bloody good it is too, but it will only do my laptop not provide broadband for the household.

Just looked up that wibe thing, what is the monthly cost and who does it operate through? If you don't mind me asking.

I've had that in the past! Never know any better so never questioned it, so even if you're 3 miles from exchange it doesn't/shouldn't matter?

One off cost only. Whatever sim you like. We brought it through a firm called rural broadband iirc.
Vodafone sim is what we use, business tariff. I think its around £18/month. Whatever it says on their website. Unlimited.
Came with a 1gb pay as you go sim to try. That also gave 3g though not quite as quick as Vodafone.
Think it was a months trial too so if it made no difference you could send it back.
Rural broadband were helpful too.

the lines are old/too small so can only carry so much data, basicly they are having to juggle to keep everybody happy, i feel its a case of who shouts the most gets a bit more speed

We've got satellite broadband through rural broadband we've had it for 4 years now it's great it gives us good speeds (a bit quicker than 3g)And a fair old download limit for £25 a month Richard at ruralbroadband gave us a wiBe to try but where we are it couldn't get 3g so we had to go with a satellite broadband system.
I'd like to improve the router so to make the farm WiFi so any suggestions would be great.

Excellent, I can see BT getting the sack.
I did mention to mum and dad about getting rid of everything landline, broadband...and then mum getting a contract phone as she's a pia she's on pay as you go so she prank calls so then we have to stop and ring her!:banghead::D
The only thing would you miss the landline, when people ring who you don't know that well and won't know a mobile number?

My landline only rings once or twice a month, everyone has the mobile numbers and uses them.

You need to be a bit creative. thick walls can be overcome with powerline plugs.
also look around for any neighbours within line of sight that have a good connection,
I believe the latest wireless systems can be up to 9 miles apart, effectively allowing friends to share a fast connection.
I can see houses with very fast fibre, If nessesary i could buy a flat in sight and fit a wireless link to fibre optic
