Might make prices firm even more in the medium term if production falls greatly.

Theres a difference between how it causes issues for the beef/milk producers and how it affects production.

Maybe the UK should bring in a unilateral ban on any US beef products being imporated. As it spreads through the continent further the ban to South American products also.

But no, they will shut the door once the horses have bolted!

Was it last year that they powers that be tried to claim that they had found bird flu in the first cat or dog in the UK?

Turned out to be a non story and complete BS.

Same as the above ref the dairy cows in the states, will no doubt be an anti livestock/ milk agenda behind it.

This might be in news in next few days.

Proper fall in market.

Ant...

Again, USDA seem fairly relaxed from this snippet from the report I quoted above:

Milk loss resulting from symptomatic cattle to date is too limited to have a major impact on supply and there should be no impact on the price of milk or other dairy products. Further, the U.S. typically has a more than sufficient milk supply in the spring months due to seasonally higher production.

They also state that there are very limited human health risks (other than working in very close contact with infected animals) but that all milk & milk products must be pasteurised

Not good for the individual farms affected though

Won't impact beef production as you can't magically flick a switch and make the cattle invisible. Will impact prices.
Won't dramatically impact milk production as it's no worse than 3 day sickness ,and again, the cows don't magically disappear. Short term, may impact retail sales till the next news (moos) cycle.
Think I'd rather catch cowvid over CJD any day. And that's a distant memory now in the belly of consumers.

Don’t be silly. It’s only every other govt in the world that seeks to protect it’s own industry by instigating such measures at the drop of a hat.
