I went to the bank van today and it didn't turn up so I couldn't pay in. All markets here only do cheques.
I tried to use the photo app and then discovered it was limited to £500, not even 4 old ewes!!!!

I tried to phone the business section of the bank and just had a recorded message to say there was no one there anymore. If the bloo*y banks don't work then we are in a real mess.
thing is if this gets really bad , how long is the cheque good for ? especially if the mart goes pop at a later date

The reason there are food shortages is because people’s eating habits have changed they are no longer able to eat in restaurants,so they are cooking at home which means they have to go shopping and as most of them have been told that this will be the situation for at least 8 weeks they are stocking up.
I wonder how many oven factory seals will be broken in the next few weeks?

I remember when l was 17, going to Stirling and selling old cast bf ewes for about 6£ a head, that was for a trailor load, we nearly owed the market money, changed dayz, that was 1990.

Somebody email the esteemed minister this information who declared we should import all food.
His name is Dr Timothy Leunig. The pure hubris of the man was crazy enough at the time, but now I can’t even think of a word good enough to describe his foolishness.
Senator Pat Roberts, Kansas, was closer to the truth when he said,

“Show me a nation that cannot feed itself, and I’ll show you a nation in chaos. There is no greater threat to national security, than food security.”

I've made that point to MB, apparently there are moves at foot for ABP to set up BACS.
Wont happen overnight though.

South Molton market pay online if people have set it up.

I asked David Lightfoot about that ten years ago. He asked above and was told they weren’t bothered as the value of cheques every year end that hadn’t been cashed was eye watering...left behind the clock on the mantelpiece etc. More than payed for the bank charges although pistage would be much cheaper back then

Sounds about right!
Both the attitude of ABP, and the odd wealthy farmers that didn't notice not paying in a cheque!

Have the markets felt empty of people this week or not noticeably different? Anyone in hereford market today to comment?
I was in Dingwall cattle sale today ,it was noticeably quieter. Trade was back too ,about 10p/kg on the fortnight. There was a fairly somber tone to proceedings I would say.

Perhaps im being dull but shouldnt that help american and canadian beef prices with less imports
I agree, I can’t align the two other than to think Larrys gone stateside. In reality if the processing lines struggle to keep capacity going (staff shortages) then obviously less stock can be processed, however what’s coming out the other end is in greater demand and less available - so price should be rocketing. The processors will use the limited capacity to rip off both farmers and consumers.

All they need to do is send out a form asking for your bank details and send it back asap, when they get it back it should only take 5 minutes at most to set up each farmers details for Bacs.

I cannot see the post carrying on if there is a wide scale lockdown but then if that stops it will cause another serious problem and that is how do farmers get cattle passports they have applied for/ sent back to change the sex etc?

That's what the manager was hoping but demand is going up by the hour, no end of people cant get what they want so the situation wont get any better for quite a few days even if the panic buying stops as so many people that haven't panic bought cannot even get the basics now!

They only got delivered a few boxes of eggs and very little milk last night.

One upside is that there is no excuse to lower the beef price because demand is so high as soon as it hits the shelve people are grabbing the lot and chucking it in the trolley.
Why are they so hungry now....?
