We’ve sort of been pushed into these big stores because that’s what sells. Big hard fleshed cattle make good money on a solid trade. I’m sure other store sellers will be thinking the same
I think there better straight off the cow ( down here anyway) eat less food / have eaten less food when they leave , they come to a grand + at 10 months rather than having them about for nearly another year for a few hundred quid more .

I sell some like that but the solid trade is those big heavy stores. Plenty of 10 month old cattle were struggling before Christmas remember making 7/£800 looked like I should have been buying them. This sale I was at yesterday were £370 up on the year for the bullocks on the year so yes you are right at the moment but it’s not been the case forever.
Also it depends what cows you keep. I have some good cows but not all are toppers. Sold one yesterday off cow she was a second calver when I bought her with a set on calf £1800 her calf made £1560 another was an incalf heifer £1100 her calf made £1460. A lot of outfits would be nearer £2500/£3000 breeding yesterdays beast
