Went to one of those renewable "speed dating " do's recently, need to heat farmhouse, cottage and greenhouse looks like needing about 120kw.
Most firms flogging Frohling boilers. Anyone got any thoughts/experience of woodchip systems?
Do we tackle RHI application ourselves? How much would it be reasonable for an"expert" to charge to complete the process? Can see this spring being quite busy (not a seed in the ground fortunately!) dont need another layer of beauracratic bull***t to complicate matters further, seem to have more forms fill in than cows to calve as it is!!!!

Looking at a log boiler for farmhouse and farm use - around 60kw.
I'm intending to get the supplier to deal with the RHI application - life is too short for more hassle. The cost of completing the process? - hopefully that is lost in the "deal".
Does anyone have an up to date picture of forthcoming RHI changes/timetable? Concerned about possible changes requiring insulation of properties to be heated. How do you stop an old 1820's farmhouse leaking heat?

Try Glen Farrow had them out yesterday bit depends on what you want to burn we are looking to put in a small district heating system 2 farmhouses plus a holiday let with the option of grain dryiing very helpfull they offer a bespoke service everything in house and they do the RHI when you get comissioned.

I've done two applications now for a friend of mine - I can work a computer and he knows most of the answers to the questions!
Any queries, Ofgem were most helpful.

:)
Were they RHI applications? I have only dealt with them in relationt to the Wind Turbine job and find it tedious to deal with them

I'm amazed there's not been more farmer activity in this market. The biggest restraints for Biomass systems are space and access to Biomass, both no problem to most farms. Especially if you can get on the commercial RHI which seems more generous than the proposed domestic RHI which is still in consultation I believe?

I was looking at putting a biomass boiler in which heated the farm house and would also provide heat for an on floor dryer. Would doing this be eligible for the commercial rhi?

I think you need two rateable properties to qualify for a district heating scheme the grain drier would qualify for rhi payments but would need its own meter, best to phone either Dragon or Glen Farrow

What are the costs and returns on these biomass boilers? May pass some info onto my neighbour farmer, they run a large farm house, annex and 4 holiday let cottages so I would imagine they would be the perfect setup?

I'm currently looking at a biomass boiler and Mole Valley/sourcerenewables are going to quote, but their boilers will only burn wood pellets. This company http://www.treco.co.uk do a boiler that will burn pellets log or wheat, this ideal appeals more than being reliant on a pellet supply. Has anybody dealt with them?
