Browns log splitter

We've recently bought one and was wondering what ‘user modifications’ people have done please.

Dad said he’s struggling to operate the handle I’ve tightened it so at least can use it one handed, think he might fit a lever like on post bashers/old loader controls.

Also can the auto reset range be adjusted, I suggested a big ring to place smaller logs on so it’s not doing the full stroke every time.

Any help greatly appreciated, or pm if you prefer.

I’ve got a Wessex,I think it is.anyway I have two levers that have to be held by two hands which makes it impossible to steady logs.ive g cramped sugary tube either side to make it a one handed job.also got a huge bit of plate,probably 900x600 mm welded around the bottom but so I can put several bits of wood on it and not keep having to bend down to pick up more wood.if that makes sense

This is what I’ve tightened so can work single handed, interested if it can be bettered.

We have a Browns log splitter and use plywood 1" thick offcuts to make up a cutting platform - they are far more stronger than conventional timber to cut against and don't damage the blade

Yes put a big log on the base plate and use it to reduce the stroke ,,also sit the splitter on a decent log as then you dont have to bend down so far

I've got the same Browns splitter. We used to stack rounds on the platform to raise the height. I could work it one handed with a finger hooked through the guard, but it cramped the hand so we generally used it with 2 people. Once you get the feel of the valve, it is possible to only let the ram retract a short way and hold it in place.

Downside of one operating and the other putting the logs on is both need to be paying attention. I lost concentration and am down 1/4 of a finger as a result...

take the little guard off the valve handle, take the valve handle off and put a single lever on, same as on the majority of spool valves.
I know ours has a lever as said, but from the pic assume must have removed the guard thing?

It looks awkward on the back of the Massey, would it be a bit low?
But then easier to load .......

Maybe a table extension so he can slide the stuff in

If you have the handles either side of the ram loosely bolt to the end of the handles two bits of box or tube one from each handle but a handle pointing out the side on each one and piece of u chanel pointing inwards
This will allow you to hold the ring whilst still requiring two hand to operate
This is kind of what bindeburg and posch do and ive never had a problem with it it alos kind of catches knotty rings when they explode so you dont have to pick them up again

I've sold my log splitter now I've taken up karate, edge of my hands bleed a little, but so much faster.
