Cleaning Esse Oil Cooker/Stove V40 Sovereign Select

Hi again

Thanks. I'm beginning to conclude that the handbook is misleading and that the tee is in fact referring to the one you mentioned on the outside of the pot - although I can't see how you could "lose the washer below any deposit"???

I'm hoping to get hold of someone at Esse tomorrow who can clarify this point (and maybe the other issue too). I'll update you when there is a development. :)
Pretty sure now that there is nothing connected on the inside of the burner entry pipe after what you said. I undid the tee nut and cleaned out the pipe as best I could. I found the washer which is copper coloured and its difficult to see its there unless you crouch right down and shine a torch on it.

Anway, we lit the Esse and it is running as usual. The sweep is coming in a few days, so I'll get a chance to check her over.

What I have found is that I get a beautiful blue flame when the oil is turned up to Position 3 (quarter past the hour when viewed sideways), rather than Position 2.

Have you checked that the upper and lower burner rings are in the correct positions? If they are not then you will get a yellow lazy flame creating lots of soot.

Just wanted to update and thank those of you who has contributed on this. Since the sweep came, the system is running better. I think there were a number of issues that
contributed to the probems, such as a suspect delivery in the past, insufficient additive, and running the oil flow too low (yellow flame).

We are keeping the flow rate higher now and it seems to be behaving much better - albeit expensive. When the weather is mild, like over the recent Christmas period the Esse was turned off as it just gets too hot - the property is quite small.

how much kero do you get thru with your esse? We’ve inherited one, a sovereign v40 and 1000l is barely doing 7 weeks, is this normal? I’m considering converting it to burn crisp fivers in order to trim its operating costs. ??
