Dead ram

Bought a fresh innovative ram this year and was pleased with him, on the latter part of the ewes 2nd cycle noticed he was looking rather tucked up. Left him in but put the 2 batches of sheep together, pulled the rams out few days later he’s looking rough as whereas my Exlana looks like he hasn’t shed a kilo!

Drenched him and another few days after now died, had a neighbours Alsatian in chasing at one point but there’s no visible bites. Is it failing on my part should I have drenched before going in(odd that my other ram is fighting fit), chalk it up or try the vendor for reimbursement?

I would get a PM, even if for the purpose of chalking it up.
I would then go from there, it could be something that you could take up with the breeders perhaps - but more to the point his genes are now in your flock, so it would really pay to find out what.

...... could have eaten a plastic bag!

( But I wouldn't leap to a conclusion it was lack of drench, I have never drenched my rams, and they won't go away  )

i would make a wild guess at one of the Pasteurella's

Talk to the ram breeder, be brave

If the ram had a medical problem ie pneumonia that had been treated for and recoveredwell, before you bought him it will be on the breeders records and he might reimburse you in some way

however of course its also quite likely he picked up foreign bugs at his new home as they do.

pm look at lungs for that

Might be worth speaking to Innovis (I presume that's who you mean?).[/QUOTE]

If it is an innovis tup, pretty sure they guarantee them for a year after purchase. Definitely speak to them regardless, as they will want to know.

^this. You pay a very healthy premium to get that guarantee, so use it. Pretty sure that they'd want a PM done though, like most would.

I'd not rule out the dog. Abattoir showed me a carcase hung up that was bruised all over. They said there didn't seem to be much wrong with him until they took the skin off. (Not my dog, I should add!).
