Is this it? How do you get rid of it out of grass leys without making it palatable to sheep.

I don't know. But have you checked whether Deadly Nightshade is poisonous to sheep? I seem to remember from my vet college days (before they threw me out!) that not all animals react the same. Morphine will put a man to sleep but cause a cat or a horse to go into a state of hyperactivity. (Definitely something to remember if you want to nobble a race horse).

More likely to be purple nightshade. Deadly is a rare beast

Never really noticed any before. Wet year set it off? Some thick patches. Then some lone plants here and there. Flowering like a potato.

Safe to use after 4 to 5 weeks insiled . That was the advice for maize anyway .

Depends on the concentration of only a few plant it will get well disperesed diluted.

solanum nigrum or black nightshade gets my vote

never heard of livestock harm even by pony lovers but if large proportion of beast’s diet who can say. Ask yer vet
