Deutz cat jlg telehandlers

Looking at changing our old faithful matbro ts280 had the browns rep round this morn swearing blind the cat isn't jlg but it looks the same as the deutz anybody running them

Remember looking at a Cat handler in one of the summer shows, I'm sure JLG was printed on the silver plate where they have the serial number and other details.

If its a TH336/406/ 337/ 07 it is definately JLG, built in Belgium. I have one and its a very good truck.

As per above, the TH336/337/406/407C machines are built in belgium for Cat by JLG as it is a joint venture, but the Cat version is NOT the same as the JLG/Deutz versions, they share many aesthetic parts but, the cat machines use (british made) cat engines & cat transmissions.

Also just out of interest, they are also designed and developed here in the UK!

So which is likely to be the most reliable?

CAT drivetrain or JLG.

Cat drivetrain is turner which is owned by Cat and fitted to the Deutz handler too . Deutz has a Deutz engine and Caterpillar has a perkipillar.
The Turner gearbox is fitted to many machines

Basicaly do you want a Perkins (CAT) or Deutz engine then!?

I believe that all the Cat machines are powershift but Deutz do a Hydro aswell. Not sure if this helps at all or just makes it more complicated!

We have a Deutz (JLG) 3000 hrs. Zero issues in that time. Routine service only. Hydro was a change from the JCB but prefer it now.

Deutz in my merlo hydro, wouldn't go back to yellow perkins.

They will both be EGR with a catalytic converter.

We have a duetz JLG with 4000hours no issues would buy a new one without thinking twice ! Well maybe when the milk price improves!

Deutz in my Merlo 40.7 , superb engine, very smooth and huge grunt... Perkins not in same league I'm afraid.

Yes Hydrostatic! Whistles a bit on the road, but engine plenty of umph, friends have spent a lot more on JCB and Manitou and has lots of repair bills!

Only thing which puts me off is resale value.

However I think JCB went backwards when they stopped making the rear engined 526s which we have.

The replacement 526-56 seems not as well thought out with low ground clearance and the lump of the side engine.
