you've made me feel like the sacrificial sheep that the flock push forward to see if the fence is working or not

I have a couple of Speedrite ones that are brilliant, with the right energiser you can turn off the current anywhere in the fence.

That kind of fault finder with the amp-leaking direction display is the way to go for fence lines though, saves hours.
