i like crap old cars,

currently fancy a merc 3.0 v6 from around 2008-2013, i believe fitted with the OM642

prob in a c class, would love another vag car but last experience of the their offering of a diesel v6 has put me off for a life time, dont think ive ever been so happy to watch a car drive away, and was not 'dog' had full audi history till just before i bought it,

anyone run this engine in any variant of the cars, ive read a few bits but mostly around good servicing to keep em sweet and injector seals on engines over 100k, most likely will be a late c class around 2012.

My neighbour stopped and showed me his “new” merc, said it wouldn’t need tax in June. Anyway his mate had built it, twin turbo, one of them off a Scania, massive self built intercooler at the front, he reckoned it was 400bhp, absolute weapon!

That's the intercooler at the front.
Just noticed it’s a five cylinder!

good engines in my experience,i have the older one in a 2006 chrysler 300c,
had it 10 years,no issues, havn't used it for a couple of years now and a jump pack and she fired straight up.
injector seals go on most diesels and caught quick are a fairly easy job, regular oil changes etc and should be fine (y)

Variable intake runner control motor & glow plugs being rhe usual ball aches on this engine.
Injector seals you'd want to do whilst you'd got it apart.

I had a ml 300 2009 it was the best vehicle I ever had it had 45k when I got it and did 150k here it only had brakes and an ignition barrel
Changed the oil every 10k it used oil not much bit thirsty but hard driven great vehicle good engine

if anyone has a c, e, s or slk check the rear subrame, they are rotting from the inside out, usually near where they bolt to chassis/body.
Merc are keeping it quiet but will replace them foc if rotton.

What years does that apply to, I have a 2015 E class
as far as i'm aware all of the ones with steel subframes, some of the later ones are aluminium so they are ok,sent a couple of 10 and 12 plate ones, just get your local garage to check NOT MERCEDES DEALER
mot'd a slk last week, rang the customer to tell him it had failed as the rear subrame was rotton.
He thanked me as he'd heard about the problem a few weeks earlier and rang dealer, they wanted £120 to check if it was rotton.
"you've just given me a legal document to prove it's rotton so they can sort it"
1st time in 25years i've been thanked for failing a car :ROFLMAO:
Merc are not putting a recall out but they will replace them f.o.c if they are rotton.

Variable intake runner control motor
Is that the one under the turbo air intake? The one that gets oil dripped on it from the intake because the seal goes, and the motor then gives up eventually? It went on my 55 plate ML320, cost about £500 to replace as you have to take the turbo off to get at the motor. That was a good few years ago too, so probably closer to £1k now. Other than that its been a good sound engine (touch wood!), coming up to 100k miles now and approaching 20 years old, no other issues.
