I have been offered a wood that has been felled . How do i check to see if the conditions of the felling licence have been fufilled? Struggled with the FC website. I dont trust the seller they seem very vague about the FC paperwork etc.

Look on the public register
Be careful the forestry commission is strict with replanting and timescales and species to replant
We have one at the moment the cost of replanting and terms is taking the shine off the value of the timber

Ask them for the paperwork. I would approach it like buying anything else, no proof, no deal.
Is the price very attractive or could it turn out to be very expensive? However, if it is already felled then someone will have to clear it up

It looks like the wood licence was for natural regeneration. But only about 1/2 the area has regrown leaving 5 acres of waste ground. Could be expensive to replant as would need to be deer fenced.

Why was it felled. Did it have a disease if so do you need to burn the brash before replanting. Whats the replanting rate. What species are you allowed to replant. If not forthcoming with ANY of the information walk away.

follow up to this story= This wood should have been replanted with mixed trees. I spoke to the FC local official . He was very relaxed and said they dont usually prosecute for failing to replant, but prefer to engage with the licence holder. ( what ever that means) He asked me to inform the estate agent of the licence conditions. I told him it was HIS JOB to do that. FFS. They dont generally check up on felling and replanting , usually just look on Google maps etc to do a check at the end of the licence period.
Looks like the Forestry commision are as useless as every other government body at the moment

If it is already felled, do you have responsibility for replanting, etc?
Funny how when most of us slip up we get the Spanish Inquisition. I once put the wrong field number on a claim for dyke maintenance and was docked £5. Certainly wouldn't have paid the inspector and a GPS backpack for 6 hours.
Karma was that it was the wettest day that whole summer.

Forestry Commission at not useless they know they hold all the cards being judge jury and prosecution. All they have to do is wait until a suitable mug comes along to prosecute. From what you have said I would not touch it with a barge pole. Speaking from experience with the Forestry Commission and a woodland grant scheme.
