Finding Alkathene water pipe

Thinking on it would pay to run some plain fencing wire down the trench on top of the pipe so in future it could be found with a scanner, wire is as cheap as chips.

Neighbour has just had a right palava finding where he’d got a leak on 1/2 mile of pipe.

Marking accurately on a map when stuff is put in would go a long way of knowing where the stuff is under the ground ;)

They may be cheap but there is not one single jot of scientific evidence that they work (just like, homeopathy, accupuncture and the rest) despite the numbers of people who will no doubt rush to claim that they do.

Various controlled scientific studies over the last hundred years have repeatedly found that water dowsing does not work. For instance, 30 "expert" dowsers were invited to Kassel, Germany in 1990 to have their abilities tested in a study organized by James Randi. Pipes carrying flowing water were buried underground at known locations and the dowsers were tested as to their ability to determine if water was flowing through the pipes. All failed to do better than random guessing.
what a load of ballcocks, we used a diviner to find the best place to dig a borehole, nowhere that would suit me, but his place, we would find water at 9 meters, but not enough, go to 27 metres, he used 2 metal handles, with 2 arms, with graded marks down them, he then used a hazel twig, to show us the old way ! the twig twisted right round, in his fingers - not a chance in hell if him faking it ! When we drilled, we found water at 9 meters, and at 27 meters. Our local digger driver can find drains with surprising accuracy. The firm we used for the borehole, insisted this chap 'divined' first, to reduce wasted time, they reckoned he was 95% accurate. The only thing i caught him out on, was the fact i took him to an old bore, that was dry, he reckoned it was the only local one he didn;t know about. Good pension policy, he was 80'ish, charged £75 cash, and was doing several a week !!!

Man rocked up on our farm to find water for a borehole. Took him five minutes to find a spot with his rods. Started drilling hay presto water everywhere.

waterpipe has a serious wish to move from where you laid it, we had to find one, that went through a hedge, into neighbours, I could have sworn it was accurately marked on my map, we dug a trench 30 m and failed, neighbour was called, as we did the job together, he agreed with me, so we went another 15m each way, its still there somewhere ! Over the years had a few like that, would have put money on some too !

Are you talking about CC?
Amazing to watch! Done both our boreholes and plenty of water!

Sounds like that might have been George Applegate?

When we put our parlour in, there was a job to find the old water pipe that went to the dairy, which was supposed to run straight across the barn where the new pit was going. I had a go myself with the groundsworkers rods, after rubbishing the idea that they would work and saying there's no scientific proof, etc. Couldn't get a good reading, as although they did dip they were at completely different places down each side of the barn. Turned out the water pipe didn't go straight across the barn and went on a diagonal, and those blips of the rods were correct. Apparently most people have the gift, some don't, but they use the rods day to day and they have a set in the van at all times for a reason.

If you could run some wire etc inside, attach the genny to it then you can pick it up with the cat scanner.

Exactly this. We bought 50m of 10mm earth cable from screwfix for about £40. Inserted up a 25mm mdpe water pipe and connected genny to it. Traced with the cat perfect. Just dig a hole every 50m and re insert cable and trace again.

Could you use saline solution to do the same thing?

I don't know about dowsing. I tried the lottery once and that didn't work either despite the adverts.

I have found the welding rods work well but in a busy area the rods appear to be trigged by most underground anomalies including armoured cable, sewer in both plastic and tile, land drains and water pipe. In a clear area with just water pipe it can work well.

I employed a dowser once to find where to drill for water , he had a hazel stick and when he found water it nearly pulled him over , didn’t work fir me , cost me 200 maybe if I drilled anywhere in the field it would have come up with water ?

If dowsing is balderdash maybe you can drill and find water anywhere ? Just a thought ?

Or: You can go to the Geological Survey in Edinburgh and obtain a map................................ And then use the dowsing rods to impress your client. But dowsing rods for many people, certainly work to find pipes etc near the surface.
