Bear with me.

There's a website called http://what3words.com which you can easily find any location on earth with just a three word reference which you get from the website.

It basically splits the world into 3m x 3m squares which all have different three word references.

This could have multiple applications in agriculture from a delivery being placed in an exact spot anywhere on a farm, location of gateways, directions for contractors, location of services/manholes etc.......endless.

Just thought I'd share this as it could be really useful on farm.

Hi there - just saw this come up on our analytics and very pleased it's made a farming forum. I'm one of the co-founders of what3words, I live on a farm in Hertfordshire and whilst we now let all of the farmland on an FBT (my father was the farmer, not me), for years we have struggled directing people to parts of the farm. For example, where is the septic tank, the electricity box on the edge of the field, the gate that needs repairing etc... now they all have a simple 3 word address. And it works offline too which was very important to us when we made it as a lot of farms have very bad phone signal. Any questions feel free to ask me directly - it means a lot to me whenever I hear of farmers using the website/app! Chris

Was chatting to our neighbour,Dave who has developed 'interesting point' and he introduced me to it whilst discussing how delivery van drivers can't always find you by postcode.(y)

I'm being dumb. I've registered but now struggling to follow the process. Tried locking pin on the map but it cannot find my location and not sure how to register the three words ..............?

Excellent and love the new signature, better format is with the dots which people need to put in, so:
what3words: systems.vampire.comforted

Any other questions feel free to write in to [email protected] - answers turnaround are normally pretty quick.

As someone else commented above as well, that's correct that the 3 words are fixed and can't be customised. This means that the system can work offline as well as online (as it's an algorithm not a database), and works excellently with error correction (you'll see that the app auto-corrects typos), is then never open to confusion as it's a global fixed grid.

Dots added

Have placed on my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Livestocktrucks Perhaps we can now drop animals at specific gateways without fag packet directions too.............

I also think your farm co-ordinates AND what3words should be in your ICE stored on your mobile. I have recommended Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service adopt too

The ICE in mobiles has always puzzled me. Most phones are locked and opened by a code So how does the emergency services access your ICE numbers ?
