Ford new holland 7740 sle Road speed

Looking at buying a late blue roof new holland 7740 sle tractor.

All in great condition and everything seems to be functioning correctly but it doesn't seem 40k on the road?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was understand these tractors should be 40k and are well renowned for their Road speeds?

Could this be unluckily enough to be a rare 30k model if such a model exists or is there an underlying issue I'm missing here?

Thanks

They will do 50k when pushed, but 40k at sensible revs. I heard of a few local 8340's that were bought in from France cheap but were only 30k so possibly yours has come from abroad?

I've got a feeling its the rear diff that's the difference but I cant remember where I heard that. I will have a ask tomorrow and try and confirm it for you (y)

Later New Hollands just electronically lock out top gear in the H menu, shame its not that easy!

My nh dealer said all 4wd 40 series were all 40k except for the 12 speed non dual power white roof models, some of those were 30k. Dual powers do 37k in standard form, if you adjust the throttle stop on any of the models you'll get more revs & more speed.

You can indeed get 30k and 40k versions. I used to work on a farm with two 30k and two 40k 7840's, all 4wd SLE's. Mixture of P and R reg, so blue roof later models. Not imports, bought straight from the local dealer.

The 30k were great in the field and would seriously out perform the 40k ones, but were painful in the road in comparison!

Thankyou to everyone for posting your knowledge.

Now I'm debating whether to still go for this machine or not?

It's looking like it's a 30k which is a bit of a blow.

What is the maximum weight trailer you good people have pulled with these on the road (up and down hills) it might help to make my mind up?

We had a 7840 on 16.9 -38s which did 44k flat out so this does sound like a 30k model.

Our 2wd ford 7610 which was the direct predecessor of the 7740 handled a full 10 ton trailer no bother.

First contractor I drove for pulled 12 ton silage trailers and an 1800 gallon tanker with 7740s. Think they have 14 ton trailers behind Ts110s now.
Top speed will depend on tyre height as well as final drive ratio. I know of a 7740 on 16.9x34 although I've not driven it. Once drove a 7740 that was on 800/65r32 so 20.8x38 or equivalent should fit.
