Froment generator repairs

Anyone know anyone who can repair a 30kva froment PTO generator in the peak district area? Always been a good generator but last time I started it up it put out 240v for about 10 seconds but then dropped to 75 volts and thats what its putting out now. Thanks.

I can try tomorrow thanks but looks like there part of a multinational firm now, not sure theyd be interested in my old generator. Was wanting someone fairly local to come in there van and have a look at it really.

Oh right, that's a bit handier to us. Our generators around 30-40 years old, do they repair them that old do you know?

F roment generators were being handled by Roland Bradley in Ireland . If you are able to do it, It is worth taking the cover of the back and checking diodes . They are often the problem on the older type and very easy to check with a simple meter . Easy to replace , take pics and post them here

Finally got to looking at the generator with winter almost here, think this diode is faulty, with the multimeter it reads .576 one way and .420 the other way. It also looks like it could have been hot at one end compared to the others. There are 4 in a square. Difficult to see the writing on the diode, looks like S12M3, then underneath 0310. Could this little thing be causing the problem? And if anyone knows which diode I have to get that would be great. Thanks

My mate had issues with his.
Cost more to repair than new one,hence he never bothered repairing.

It certainly looks like a diode, I would try something like this but make sure the silver band is in the same direction as originally installed

Thanks, if you look at my diode it hasnt got the grey stripe at one end, it is tapered which I presume is instead of the grey stripe?

A reasonable assumption

I think from memory the diodes are simple 5 amp 1000 volts

Fitted a new diode and the generator now works! Had it powering everything for an hour today to test it out. Hope fully good for another 30 years now

Ideally set a reminder in your phone calendar to run it up once a month to keep the windings etc dry.

Every October if you remember
It's actually a good idea to turn them by hand occasionally, the shaft seals dry out and if you turn them by hand for a few turns it gets a little bit of oil on them
