I felt its more about farmer to farmer idea exchange with a smattering of good speakers and educators who are used to talking and bringing fresh ideas or perspectives to an area of farming/ environment etc.

I think you are thinking prescriptively, every farm and farmer is different its up to you whether you think any sort of knowledge exchange is worth it or not.

When I've been there are have been some people speaking who I definitely don't rate paticularly and yet others hang on every word. My point is people experience things differently. Other times I've listened sat in a tent within only 10 others listening to someone who knows the technicality of their topic innately but clearly doesn't float many peoples boats.
My take/slant on this area, are the times when I have a spare moment before I am wanting to hear someone specific, and I drop in to a tent to kill 20 mins and am so engaged by the Speaker, I subsequently miss the person I had intended seeing!! ;)

I don't think they have muscled in. They are allowed to be there if they pay.

Yes the corporates were nowhere to be seen in the early years until they realised they might be missing out on something.

For those that think it's bad that the main stream Multi-Nationals are throwing their money around just to muscle in to the 're-gen' ag world, you should see the evil corporate giants who are sponsoring The Cereals Event 😱:

rough numbers suggest that one acre of soil has a communication network that in distance is equal to or greater than all of the phone lines on earth joined together and we know feck all about it in real terms , the sooner we stop listening to companies that have jumped on the bandwagon peddling they know better with a product that we need to buy the better , if groundswell keeps away those companies that say they have the answer brilliant ,paying to hear people with real world experience at groundswell is probably much cheaper/a bargain than buying into some of these 'smart companies' with even smarter ideas that by the complexity of soil cannot be in all probility be right

Could someone such as myself pop across to Hertfordshire for a flying visit and pay £20 to skoot round or is it all ‘money’ based.
As an ex RASE member The Royal Show was a fantastic place for a day out only spoiled by the crowds and carp burger vans that dominated in the last couple of years of its existence🥲

explains why i remember it then , was a Dunedin Wool classer who spoke like it.
I have a friend from Invercargill (The worlds Fastest Indian) who has that Scottish twang. We swapped houses as youngsters and he was so very kind and hospitable as the Kiwi’s are, to my eldest daughter when she visited NZ.
I’m hoping to return the favour if or when his son decides to do a big trip.

agree can learn something from everyone and pick and chose bits is the way in my book but as you might agree a show type situation aint the best place for it because of the hype / pressure to fit so much in/make an impression justify costs etc etc.
working or social regular groups might be better but who has the patience for them. internets ok but not quite real life is it in respect of meeting people.
absolutely fantastic for certain info exchange and theory learning though imo

Absolutely. Principles are largely universal, otherwise they just aren't principles.

Most people are very much the same, being human you'd almost expect that to be so. Not much free choice and lots of decision

My character was largely run by it's own in-order-to's.

That's really what there is to get, I'm no more "kiwi pete" than I am my thoughts, my feelings, my emotions, my strong suits, or my act.
Of course it all tries very very hard to seem otherwise
