Well at least they have it on at a sensible time and day unlike the Devon one which starts at 11 am tomorrow @ a Friday which for one is the day I like to get as many routine jobs out of the way as possible for the weekend and two its the store market day of the biggest livestock market in the SW which takes place 4 miles or so down the road!!...........

So , seeing that some of the protagonists are on this morning I'll assume that you cannot name them . Seems to be this whole debate focuses more on personality than it should.

No it is about if the jobs are given out in a fair and transparent way to the people most qualified to do them, currently most people only know about PK because he tried to derail the advertising campaign and also is giving all the top jobs to his mate's, and Jayne King is only known for well being the failed editor of the FW, all these aspects are negative and are damaging the reputation of the AHDB!

My informant tells me that the advertising wasn't pulled on purpose, it was a mistake by Jane King. She had all the prepared stuff which had been paid for and just forgot it. Then the government were blamed to cover her tracks and I think PK has taken some of the blame to soften the blow.

GUTH, you ought to realise that the "elected" people such as Guy and Meurig are not NFU staff. The NFU staff are professionals who are employed by the NFU and in general do a good job. They are like the civil servants in the government they advise the elected farmers and help them when they are in office.

In the 2000 elections where my county went for the OMOV it was defeated quite easily. I was disappointed as I'd tried hard to get things changed, but the majority didn't care how folk were voted on. Many counties seemed to be run by the "old guard" as some of the delegates were very old! Things got better when the county chairmen went onto the NFU council as most of them changed after two years so they kept getting new members on board.

But I do think the voting must be counted by an independent source so things look transparent. I have had suspicions that some of the voting in the past was rather iffy, it seemed like the elections in North Korea, you knew who would win and who wouldn't. I particularly remember the vote when Ben Gill defeated Chris French who would have made an excellent president. But they weren't having him!

No way in hell Jayne King "just" forgot about the advertising campaign, that story was given to deflect some of the blame away from PK ( and this I have from 3 very good sources ) PK is the ONE person at the AHDB that actively worked to stop the campaign!!

I know the likes of GS/MR are not NFU staff, the point is that NFU staff are counting the votes for the people that they have been working with very closely for the last two years and the chance for them to favour/ dis- favour someone that they either want or don't want to win is massive..

NFU election process is open to massive corruption and clearly isn't fit for purpose and hence why the NFU keep the results of who voted for who etc a closely guarded secret!!

How much does the NFU president get paid @Guy Smith ??

Hoping to go but wont know until the morning for sure as I have something else booked in for the morning and not sure how long that will take, 11 am is just about the most stupid time of day in the middle of winter to hold a meeting which livestock farmers can attend!
