Most of us have had derogation all winter to use conventional hay and straw for young stock as forage trader says not much demand for organic straw.

What the feck is the point in organic if you are allowed to feed them non organic hay???
Surely it's not organic if you feed non organic hay.

Organic really is the biggest farce in farming, the public are lead up the garden path.

Think you need to be a certified organic farmer. Get in touch with the Soil Association or who ever it is that governs all things organic. We used to have about 30 or 40 organic farmers on our books now we have 4!! So I wouldn't rush to convert!!

Before a merchant can trade organic hay he first has to register and then get an annual inspection of his books, if you buy hay of an unregistered merchant it will lose its organic status

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
