after reading the whole thread i am pleased you have got him to work well now as i have worked with older people that don't work hard as they feel as they have been working so long on the same farm they don't see the need to work hard. and if they see some one younger working hard they get offended

Hi, yes thank you they have. He is now doing a lot more on the golf course, and I just have him for the days I need him which works for both of us. I think he likes working with all the other green keepers because he really likes to chat..... He worked an hour late with me last week and didn't complain, so that's good! I have also learnt how to do a lot of new things myself and to be more self sufficient, which is good for me! He's never going to go the extra mile, and I have just learnt not to expect it, he's just not that kind of person. That way I don't get frustrated, annoyed or upset :)

Sit down, face to face with no interruptions and lay out your feelings and then shut up and listen.
Eventually he will spit out what he wants to say and once the dam bursts..................................
The biggest management problem is not just lack of communication its lack of understanding the other fella.
You are almost in a no-win situation but I think it is still redeemable. Some good counsel on her and when
you filter out what has been said you will realise that most of us have suffered the same sort of challenge...and come through it.

Best of luck!
