I stopped using it when my RS420 stick reader died prematurely and I wasn't going to buy another. At that time iLivestock only worked with the RS420 - not sure if that's still the case.

I am now using Sheepware select by TGM software together with an Agrident AWR300 stick reader. It is much easier to use the AWR300 out in the field than a stick reader plus ipad and also easier to use the office computer at the end of the day to do more in depth tasks / analysis than an ipad. In bright sunshine it is very hard to see the screen on an ipad.

Hi, just wanted to say our application now works with the Agrident readers (AWR300, AWL200,Allflex and in a few weeks the newer Tru-Test readers.

we have big plans for our iLivestock software in the coming months which I’ll share in here soon.

thanks for the feedback though :)

£525 to "buy", then £115/annum, so not quite a one off...
Well all i know is the sheep version we have was 375 iirc and nothing more bound to pay after that.
The farmworks app that we have also will need renewell annually at £30 but with the stockrecorder you wouldnt havdvto have the app, although i think some do

Ah I see where you got that from, its the OPTIONAL continued support after the first year that would cost that 115 per annum the farmworks program is yours freehold (y)

Personal experience is that you can manage without updates for a year or 3, but sooner or later, there is a change and you are caught!

I used Agridata for many years with my Suckler and beef herd, but got to feeling the cost/head was getting silly, so I stopped paying the annual fee but just used teh bare minimum of the database. The company got very agitated, kept sending in Invoices for updates and "support", I kept sending them back and saying I no longer needed them. THis went on for several years until the cattle went off the farm. When we came back in 2-3 years later, I was stuffed, as I had not kept the records updated so needed a new licence... ;)

I've been paper recording ever since, but would like a low cost VERY simple cattle database again, but they all seem to come with huge complexities, 90% of which are of no use to me.

Hi!
How do you find TGM software? I have been looking for software for ages and had narrowed it down but then have just come across them today. What would be your review of theirs?
Thanks,
Lizzie

FarmIT is proving pretty handy

Hi!
I've been looking for software for ages and FarmIT is one of the ones I've narrowed it down to. We want it to do both livestock and accounts. Could you give me a bit of a review of how you find it, anything it doesn't do but you wish it did etc. I've always read that their support is great but the phone call I just had didn't exactly fill me with confidence .
Thanks,
Lizzie

I know nothing about Agridata .

I only use farmworks for sheep, its a good ( and committed to the industry ) company to deal with (y)

Google Agriwebb, looks to be a good system with over 3,000 users in Australia and are about to release into the UK.

Hi,

We found they know their stuff when contacted, @lizzieS . This new digital accounts package HMRC expects everyone to have before long has been a bit of a pain all round to all suppliers, but to date, their package is intuitive to use. The accountant likes the business format printouts, and the FA inspector likes the meds, movement and keelings-over printouts - but we like to send hard copy. It's in digitally sendable form, too.

Inputting individual records is straightforward (bearing in mind I'm not a digital native), the meds and management areas clearly tabbed in the handheld where it's needed, both individually, and in batches. We tag and record within the first week at lambing, and the only teeny snag has been inputting adopted lambs to their adoptive ewe, but a brighter member of the family soon thought of a work around.

Like so many things, it's a matter of making the tech work for you. I'm sure there's more in there than is currently used here, and there'll come a time when that level of analysis is needed and it will be ready right there and then.

I tried the ilivestock probably about 5 or 6 years ago and found it very difficult/unreliable to use (although it may well have improved a lot since then and I'm not great with tech stuff so a lot of the problems may have been down to my stupidity!)
I've gone back to paper files and keep very detailed records of all my flock which the FA inspector was impressed with. I'm dreading having to go back to digital at some point :(

It is not you I am sure, too much software tries to do too much and ends up being increasingly complex. This is often made worse in my experience, of changes being made and add-ons for new legislation or just because...

Good software of whatever type, should be easy to use and understand.

The worst I know is Planet in it's various guises, truly bloody awful and non-intuitive...

Stock recorder which we also supplied in the past now seriously expensive. Tag readers from agrident are a fraction of the price and record the full range of management events directly on the reader. You get 3 or more agrident handhelds for the price of one workabout Pro (stock recorder).

@Macsky we have been using iLivestock with rs420 reader for around 4 years now and we really rate it. Use it for our 3 pedigree flocks and our commercials

It’s come on loads in the last year or so, and the tech back up is second to non! Next year we will be getting the eWeigh system from them to take it to the next level.

Could you give me a basic description of how you go about the above, if you can be bothered, no problem if not!
