Irrigator pump primer

Anyone any ideas for a 12v primer / vacuum pump to prime an irrigation pump set with a high lift before my arm falls off.
Exhaust primer could be difficult so looking for a 12 volt solution if possible.

Had a little submersible. Used to work well. Filled pipe and then pump. Cannot remember what sort it was just clipped it onto battery Use a. 2000 litre bowser now gravity fill then when pump is primed and running it pushes water back up pipe and fill bowser back up if needed . Could you have a little vacuum pump with a Honda engine like on doda slurry pump. Johnson l 450 pump 45 lt min. About £15

@Will 1595 hope your well, spat the dummy this morning, pulling the pump back to the workshop and going to fit a wee loncin 1.5 or 2 " pump as a filling pump and use the manual hand primer to fill that then I'm not trying to hand prime a 6" high lift suction hose.

Yes foot valve fitted thanks but there always seems to be a wee bit seepage and trying to prime the last foot or so before the big pump gets a hold of the water takes an age.

I'm not as fit as I used to be......

I must admit I connected our dirty water pump to mains water supply for priming.
Obviously used a non return valve.

Yes thanks we will be passing through next week lon way to highlands had a small hole in foot valve. Bit of rag and a whittled bit of stick out of hedge hammered int smarl hole cured that.

May help to fit a non return after the pump as well. Could be you need to replace the rope seal in the pump as well, can be fiddley taking the old seal out though

+1 for changing the gland packing (rope seal). Amazing what difference it makes to priming. I use a seal pick and needle nose pliers

Thanks all, changed the gland seal, repositioned the suction pipe from hand primer and replaced the diaphragm.
Found the foot filter had a slight twist and wasn't 100% sure it was sealing properly so changed that too.

we use a foot valve on the intake pipe that keeps the water in , just fill up the pipe with a little water and off you go
