Hello all
having run my new purchase of a 456a for a little doing some rebaling it was dropping some knots on one of the Knotters, and the occasional one on the other. Had a look and the twine discs are out of time, slightly retarded from where they should be. There’s no nut on the worm gear so they have to be shimmed. On one side (that wasn’t dropping) there is plenty of shimming left to be had, and it’s very tight on the worm and the gear that drives the twine discs, like it should be. On the knotter that’s playing up, there is a fair bit of play in the worm and the cog, and not a lot of shimming left. The flat of the drive cog that goes off of the cam is almost on the knotter frame. Checked woodfields and they don’t do the part/parts I need. JD do but it’s 260 for both. Woodfields do the whole knotter for 439. Is it worth buying a new knotter, are they any good and how hard is it to fit one?
