Has anyone any homemade solutions to keeping the tractor radiator clean when buckraking im
Having to blow my 6485 out every few loads in dry grass the grills on the bonnet seem to let way to much through, I was thinking if I could pipe a airline to the radiator cowling with holes in it bit like a sprinkler for water and have a large air supply to it from a air tank switch engine off and press a button to blow the crap out it would be easier if I had air brakes or a reverse fan is the ideal solution but not a cheep one

Does it have a screen in the grill? is there room to add one? A cheap fiberglass screen tied or wired into place is the standard solution, then shut the tractor off (or wait until the fan shuts off if it will) and tap the screen to get the chaff to fall off. A cordless leafblower is nice if you can get access to the back. Water works fine as long as the engine is cool and you keep going until it's clean, not a practical solution during the work day, but if it's not perfectly clean inside the radiator, then the blockage on the surface hurts that much more.

First thing is the radiator actually spotless and it's just getting plugged with loose grass or is there a problem somewhere? It's overheating I take it.
Buckrake on front or back?

Buckrake on the front radiator is well clean start of the day but soon fills up with dry grass this time of year I currently use a cordless leaf blower which does work well just tedious getting off every couple of loads and getting covered in shite doing it

we have exactly the same problem with the John Deere Drives our buckrake men absolutely crazy, all so on the front I would,nt Expect anybody to buckrake all season with the buckrake on the back.we’ve been talking about a reversible fan for years have you priced one and what brands are there? I’ll have to give the airline job some thought

Had the same problem with the front mower, I made a three sided box made out of thin ply that fitted Infront of the grill with about four to six inch gap between them, all the air had to be drawn from above so no grass could be sucked up into the grill, looked very heath Robinson but would only need the rad blown out once a week even when cutting a hundred acres a day.

Wouldn't bother me at all to have a buckrake on the back, especially these days with modern tractors and their buttons.
I did use to do it with a Ford 7810 mind, my left knee still plays up.

One problem I can see with either your idea or a reversible fan you blow the radiator out with the bonnet shut the grass will be still inside the bonnet to just suck straight back in the radiator .our JD has two screens one on the oil cooler or something and one on the radiator, the radiator as such doesn’t got blocked up but even the second screen gets blocked so the first screen must let very fine stuff through

I don’t do any buckrakeing I’m useless, but my back won’t allow me to turn around and look behind me I have a camera on the forage harvester spout , And yes, 7810 clutches are heavy them days are gone. I think if I told my lads to put the buckrake on the back, I’ll be told to do it myself, Anyways, they tell me The radiator blocks With the Buckrake on the back just the same, and that’s a good reason for me to keep my mouth shut because I might end up with the job.😂

This isn't a kinky fetish I'd just like to point out but years ago on 3000 series used to put tights pulled over front grill and side panels to stop this problem. Worked well until you snagged your tights

We tried that, but with an old blanket, it can‘t of worked very well because it wasn’t on the tractor The next time I saw it.
