Thought seeing as we are well into lambing season people could post some pics for there lambing shed, heres mine, feed barriers along the front and walk along troughs. Simple but it works for me.

Thanks for sharing. Ewes look well and like the setup. Stocking rate looks high but shed is well ventilated so shouldn't be a problem. I guess you remove the ewe before she lambs or do you wait until she's lambed?

I'm looking at building a shed in time to house sheep so very interested to see more photos of other setups.

yeh ewes are removed when they start lambing, ewes have 15 sqft each so not as tight as it appears in the pic

This our set up one problem being there is a lot of wasted space with feeding passages shed was built about 25yrs ago from second hand steel. Made all the barriers and concreted the passages about 10yrs ago.

Ours is 180 x 60 with 180 x 35 lean to. Divided into 36 pens of 24 x 15 and mainly divided by walkthrough troughs Except the oldest part which has gates between pens. We put troughs on the gates there. We put around 40 Easycare ewes in each pen so max capacity around 1440 but we have been known to push a few extra in.

We hae an old stone cowshed that we gutted out and that takes about 50 6x3 lambing pens. After that we just build pens in the sheep shed moving the in lambs ewes down as we go. NOT ideal. It's something we need to sort out asap. May have to hire a marquee or something this year as we're full up of twins. All singles lambing outside.

Very impressive ! A farm near here has a similar setup and although there's a lot of wasted space they can feed everything mechanically. The have a hopper on the mule that can feed nuts along the barriers on top of the silage. I suppose you use TMR ? Even better.

We would get 900 scotch mule ewes in but got a bit tight nearer lambing. 800-850 would be perfect for them all getting in to feed. We are keeping more suff x ewes which are much bigger (too big) so need more room. Don't employ a shepherd anymore so cut the ewes back to 650 and lambing them 2 wks earlier 1st march to get all the lambs away at a better price. The shed is 300 x 60ft. We put the lambing pens up the back of pens and bring a tractor and trailer that takes 16-20 ewes out at a time. Ewes and lambs out 24hrs later if weather ok.
We feed tmr (soya, invergordon, harbro greengold, moland minerals) but this year we are trying nuts for the first time mixed through the silage, triplets getting some extra along the top. Not bought a snacker yet!! will see how we get on.
If I had to build the shed again would make it higher and 10ft wider.

GSB did you concrete only passages or whole floor ,previous shed I had we had had raised passages was great in fact it lasted whole season , but shed was useless for rest of season , notice with new set up dung building much quicker on flat but at least pens can come out and use shed for remainder of year ,and everything all under 1roof now

just concreted the passages so a 6inch plus drop but the straw does still get pretty high nearer the end of lambing. The shed gets mucked out after lambing then it gets used for shearing with all the barriers still up so the ewes can be penned and circulated round the shed. Thought about putting a handling system up one side of the shed but the shed is at one side of the farm so would mean shifting ewes long distances. Shed is filled with straw at harvest. it works quite well with big square bale on the passages and round bales in the middle. If I was lambing outside would love to put slats in. mabye fatten pigs rest of the year!! caravans might pay better!!

How do you like the tunnel Will ? We desperately need more space for individual pens but not sure if it's too exposed here (or flat enough)

it's great tunnel, it's a old mushroom tunnel so it's for fibre glass between plastic, stays cool in summer and doesn't freeze in winter, shed holds 100 sheep maybe but only problem is it gets stuffy but have a fan we plug in and keeps air moving
