Lean To Type Barn

Hi,

Were looking at putting up a pole barn. Three sides covered with the front open and a slight slope on the roof, i hope you understand the type i mean! Just wondering whats the biggest we can put up without planning permission? It will be used to store tractor, few bits of hay machinery and hay and straw. If you require more info let me know!

Also, where do people get old wood from to create such sheds? Doesn't need to be new wood obviously!

Depends where the shed is - if it is in your garden (officially the curtilage of your house) you can build a shed up to a third of the garden area as long as it is below about 12 feet high.

On the farm - can it be seen? Have you got neighbours who could object? is it less than a 10% by volume extension of a shed built before 1991 (and no higher) If in all of these cases the answer is no then build anyhow.

Use the best materials you can afford as it will last longer especially if it is an exposed site.
