Heavy rain here yesterday. Good Friday. It did bring back memories of a Good Friday trimming leeks, it rained so much all day, the staff I had (travellers) couldn’t actually get « home ». I would be guessing at 1997?🤔
Looks like we're getting it Monday

My local AD buisness abandoned around 450 acs maize with forager in November(out of approx 3000ac). Got a guy in with a combine on tracks but took to end of January to finish . Fields are a real mess and water in the ruts will take a long time to dry out . They were hoping for some hard frosts to run some times through to release water bug not had one even moderate frost .

Off topic.
I wonder how UK farmers who grow grain maize got on harvesting it autumn 2023 as so wet🤦🏻
My brother combined everything he needed to for his boss in Cheshire.
Own work plus a bit on contract.
He sent pics of one field that had been abandoned half way through by a chopper crew, never seen such a mess, he went with the tracked combine and barely made a mark. Not having trailers alongside all the time makes a huge difference.

I'm assuming most of the beet has been harvested this winter, haven't heard much on here about it being written off?

We’ve drilled/redrilled nothing this spring and glad of it. We’ve left some very mediocre winter wheat in place as I think it’s a better bet than mauling about with spring barley. Glad we’ve no beet either. Conserving cash, selling off underused machinery and doing drainage work that costs not much other than elbow grease and time. No beet thankfully to maul in or blow away. Sheep lambing coping well with the weather. At least it’s warm.
