Currently running two 8480 masseys and a 7495. Wondering what to replace them with! Tried newer mf 8690 seems disappointing! 5% Better pulling no better on fuel. Fendt 939 comfier seemed to pull 8% better. Claas 940 did pull but thirsty and seriously complicated. Just looking for tractors that pull and sensibly practical to drive any suggestions please.

Interested on how you base your 5% and 8% better pulling figures on?How do you measure it and what formula???
His old one pulling at its absolute limit at 8kph while the new one managed 8.7kph would equate to about 8% better pulling power. But that mainly depends on the tractor horsepower I'd have thought and that would mean that the higher horsepower wins. Especially since the MF and Fendt share the same transmission units. So does Valtra in this class of power.

The S Series runs on valtras own electrics and computer system
No doubt there are minor driver interface differences, just as there are with Fendt and the others. The transmissions, if not the engines and allowing for two brands having AGCOpower engines, are equally mechanically efficient and they all have very similar functions with different names. Simple badge engineering, certainly between Valtra and MF.

Try a jd 8360r, we have only got a 8530 but came from a mf 8480. The driver loves it, even I can jump on it and drive it if needs be. Might not be the most frugal( although we have not found this to be true) it is a brilliantly simple great tractor.

No all valtras are built in Finland and all MF are built in France two different tractors just share an engine

That was certainly not the case on the big ones until recently and I do not believe that Beauvais have a capacity issue that would necessitate a move in their assembly. Apart from sheet metal and trim and maybe the front axle, they are certainly the same tractor, even down to the same cab frame.

However, you may well be right with current build. I'll try and find out for myself whether assembly has moved.

As I said Valtra use there own electrics and computer system
And the link you attached is dated 2008 so it's out of date as we are on S4 valtras

I fail to see your point while you acknowledge that they are built on the MF production line using the same components as the MF and the exact same people assembling them together. The software is not actually that different either. They do essentially the same job with the same functions. The cab structure has identical parts apart from trim. I don't see the problem with saying that they are near identical, as near to identical as NH and Case tractors built at Basildon or even at St Valentin are to each other. They should perform absolutely identically given the same horsepower.

Actually what I mean is the 8480s are 300 horsepower. the 8690 being 370 and fendt being 390 felt pathetic with no grunt and no drivability they feel dead! I am after a tractor to put a smile on my face as they are expensive enough! also the tractors seem to Have less practical interiors and lack drivability! the layout is basically not designed by someone who actually has to use one! And that seems to be all makes
