A few months ago i needed to replace my ancient arc welder and like you i don't do loads of welding these days and was about to place an order then my mig welder died and was not worth repairing. Looking on ebay as i do i found a mig/arc all in one.
Clearly made in the PRC but being sold by a company in Italy, everything said don't buy it but the company has good feedback and its two machines in one, 180 amp arc and gas/gasless mig at the flick of a switch. So pressed the buy now button coughs up the £236 plus £29 p/p, machine arrives, first thing is test the arc, works fine, couldn't check the mig as had no wire at the time. Since then i have polished of a 5k box of 3.2mm rods and a couple of kilo of mig wire. Very impressed with it and so handy being a combined machine, i found the arc leads to short for anything so purchased some extensions.
Company goes by the name of tigmig-europe on ebay.

I can second a vote for tigmig my mechanic has 5 welders and his 14yr old son bought a tigmig stick and might welder from ebay. The father is very impressed with it and coming from him is a good compliment. I got one of there plasmas and am impressed for the money. In fact you wouldn't be without a plasma for the price.
