we start lambing sept but all outdoors and eazycare .. a few places lambing aug warmer areas june july
lambing tends to start early up north or on some cropping farms wanting to get lambs away early .. hill country areas tend to be later right out to end of sept /early oct

same with shearing local contractor starts june and ends early aug for pre lamb run
kinda want to be in the areas bit warmer to work in better for may to sept
to get a visa etc etc for this year can't see it happening
one thing to watch for is there was a job outfit and i'll try and find it that ripped people off

YFC is also a good way for young fellas to get a job out side of contractors

we would be more likely to employ someone part time over weaning (mid dec-mid jan ) than winter/lambing time

visa i don't think too hard as long as there is no reson not to let someone in to the country think yer could get a working holiday one quite eazy one of the guys thats been to NZ from the UK will have more info

work wise would want to be on a early lambing area say mid july lambing so start work feeding out vaxing pre lamb drenchs etc etc in late june then lambing over july/aug some tailing

most that employ some one would want them pre lamb to tailing time but in saying that knew a guy who only employed a man for 4 weeks over peak lambing

@NZDan he might know of guys who take on a part time helper over lambing

I went on a working holiday visa but made the mistake of only getting a 1 year one to start so make sure you get a 2 year one and only needs an extra medical from memory.

Yer Soph is sound and has some great contacts. (y)

Not sure i'd call her a city girl though :)

Yer you're not wrong mate, she doesn't come from a farming background.

She's certainly a dedicated woman, and very go-getting. What I like most about her is that she's a worker and not up her own arse. So many 'new entrant', 'female farmers' make a huge song and dance about it. . . . she just cracks on.

Will be interesting to see if she comes home. . . . .

She's also an attractive lass!

I did 6 months out there, had a working holiday visa which was very easy to get.

I went with a few grand to keep me going and once got travelling and searching job boards out there I got a job on a farm in north Isle. Great fun. My bed was in the wool shed!!!
