Friends of the Earth stirring sh*t up again. Interesting that NIEA has said its not their remit and for planners to sort out. Not like NIEA to step away from throwing the book at people.

Yes I agree to a point, but we as farmers do tend to bring a lot of this sh1t on ourselves by doing this kind of thing then wring our hands and gnash our teeth when the rules get tightened.

Oil and gas is an interesting example of what can happen with this stuff.

ESG came to financial investments back somewhere in the mid teens. It meant that O&G became a dirty investment for mutual and pension funds. Coupled with the output expansion from the US shale revolution and a number of years of high oil prices from 08-14, which led to significant over capacity in the upstream industry, the result was that funding for new exploration and development in O&G was strangulated. Years of poor returns ensued, compounding the problem. O&G still has a significant problem in attracting new money for development, also affected by the uncertainty over what program life and return would be on the path to decarbonisation of energy production. Companies are also still being told by shareholders to return profits to them rather than reinvest in new production, to help make up for years of poor returns. Now global stocks of oil are down at 1980 levels. There is still concern about lackluster growth in china at the moment which is keeping prices capped, but there is nonetheless a structural deficit of production capacity for a product that is going to be needed for many years yet. It's fascinating that governments, particularly in the West, do not seem to notice the same structural effects that years of anti-food policies are having.

Seen two fine young heifers make £2520 & £2500 (I think) via MartEye in Kilrea today, didn’t get to see the start of the sale.

also noticed a fresh calved (33 month old!!!!!) heifer made £2600 in Ballymena last Friday!

How/Why are milk heifers and cows this expensive given the current milk price?

2 boys fell out and pushed her to £2600. Same man sold 2 more at over 2k.
Main run of heifers were in the £1500-1800 range.
