What the average kW per ton for Pellet boilers?

At 25% about 3790kWh/t

Pellets about 4800kWh/t

Not getting anywhere near that, but not running to capacity yet.
If nearer to capacity will it be more economical?

4800 is the 'laboratory value'. There will be losses within the boiler and within the system before the heat meter. I bet I will only be 60-70% efficient at the end of the day. But job to measure.

it will depend on usage, long periods of ticking over use fuel with little heat going to the meter. a good burn and heavy heat use will maximise efficiency
I use 4400 kw/t as a target. my boilers are twinned so during low demand periods I can turn one off, increasing efficiency

so until I can run near to capacity would I be better off switching the boiler off at times and then letting it run flat out to get temps back up?

Dman2, if you have a buffer set up correctly on a pellet boiler the short cycling or response to low demand should be met by the buffer.where this depletes your buffer by a set charge value then the boiler will kick in. Shutting down and starting up will have a negative effect on your efficiency. Your boiler should also modulate to approx 40% turndown rate minimum. I would say a real world value of 3800-4400 for pellet KW/T IS more realistic. Depending on your meter location you may also have system losses upstream of the meter

Calculation on 3 190kw over 6 mnths. is 3950Kw/ton wood pellets 20% less than all quoted calculations that were given at getting "interested" stage.

A friend turns his biomass and pipe loop off in summer and uses oil to heat domestic hot water in each property as it makes more sense. too much heat loss.

that is what I am asking, what is the maximum return per ton of quality pellets available allowing for the least losses

After quite a bit of shouting oh and withholding payments
Turns out the problem was the heat meters where not installed properly
only getting @ 1000kw per ton of pellets
Fair buzzing round now
Just need to work out how much compensation now

What do you reckon to the installation of the heat probes?
The probe does not protrude into the flow of water, is this correct?

What make of heat Meter is it?. Our inspector wouldn't sign that off as he insists the sensors are installed in the end of the t-piece into the flow of water. How can it read the correct temperature if it's not even in the water!!!
