Resetting drum on JF Forager

Has anyone done this? Good few years back when putting drum back and setting knives out for the first time I put the drum back as far as it would go, rather than winding it back exact same on each side. Although not far out, its slightly off square, makes sharpening trickier, is there a method to square it up? Any reference points can be measured? Have improved it with trial and error but setting 24 blades takes time!

Al check my book, just found kev's 156mm in there! sure last time I adjusted springs I just gave them minimum required to stop them coming loose so it can gobble the big lumps that the god of silage deems fit to hide in even the best looking row :D

Just put new blades and shear bar in our 1050. Set a blade at either side of the drum out to 156mm then set the drum so it was square to these to the shear bar and just touching when drum turned backwards, then just put each blade in one at a time with bolts just holding blade then turn drum backwards and the shear bar pushes the blade into place, then tighten.(don't know if this makes sense but i know what i mean:confused:)

Yep makes sense! Tis a fiddle measuring them! Got half done so give your way a go now! 1050 here too, on a 6290, give it a good row and it can't half chop some grass for the power that's on it! What do you have on the front of yours?

Run a TM155 on ours and amazes me how much grass it can blow when set up and sharp.
Don't know whether to put a new reel slip clutch on ours as that is what usually slips on ours when its under pressure
Do you find yours the same?

Think I may have changed the discs once, one thing that can happen is they get a bit oily and I've found stripping the clutch down and cleaning the discs with petrol can cure it. Damned annoying if it does start slipping!

I fitted new friction plates in mine today! The manual recommends you carry a spare set with you. Do any of you drag trailers behind? I've a couple of 14 ton bailey's with silage sides and I'm not sure if they would be a bit heavy for dragging

Never towed behind, not enough flat ground to hook them off! Sure it could be done with 14's on flat ground but bound to reduce output, pulling the forager on its own uphill takes a bit of power. Then again bigger trailers would mean less time lost changing trailers

Use to pull trailers all the time with the old 900 started with 6 tons and the last year we had it 16 ton trailers. Now we have had the 1060 for 3 years and we have not used the hook once. We did have to weld the cleves on the 900 but that was after we got a 10 ton trailer stuck on the back of it.
