Ride on mower deck

Just bought new mower deck shell/skin as the one on the 2nd hand ride on I bought last year has rotted out. It just about did this year, but I don’t think it’ll last too much longer!

Before I transfer everything off the old deck, is it worth painting the underside of it with something to help protect it? Or not worth bothering, and just take it off at the end of every season and wash it off?

I have never washed off but scrape/brush off the worst debris and make sure the machine is stored in a dry airy place.

It’s got to be worth painting! Cheap compared to new metal. I would use any oil paint I had lying around! As above remove debris regularly so the underside can dry out. No need to wash it.

Always blow mine off with road compressor every time I use it and then oil it up after I finish with it. Stays polished underneath with no rust.
