And why would you go to see a second hand tractor? Same logic applies surely?
In the case of the new tractor you are dependent on a quality control team plus a PDI by the dealer. I think you would be slightly naive to expect the same level of inspection for a ten year old tractor with a history unknown to you. But as I said earlier different folk have different expectations.

That’s the worst logic I’ve ever heard in my life….
🤣 Lol sheltered life you have had.
The only way I see it is for long distance equipment you either,
1. take a punt
2. go see it yourself
3. phone a local reputable independent mechanic and ask them to nip along and make an assessment of the piece of equipment in question.

My thoughts would be if it's within 2 hours drive you'd see it yourself
Beyond 2 hours and under 30k take a punt and trust your gut, over 30k get a professional mechanic have a look at it.

But hey that's just me.

I’m not disagreeing with that, but to suggest you check out a new tractor for faults before it is delivered is plain daft. I’ve never bought a second hand tractor, when I bought a used claas combine I took one of Oliver’s fitters with me to check it out, well worth it.

Might be daft but I'd still think it would be pretty cool to see.
Next time I can afford new I think I might go see it in the factory.

Yeah I know a fair bit about equipment but I'm certainly not a mechanic.

It's not sh!t shovelling though is it, I would like to know if my name was been dragged through it like this. As has already been said there are 2 sides to every story.
The one thing I'm really struggling with is the number who think throwing 24k at something unseen is normal, vs a day in the car or £200 to get an appraisal done!
Fair enough if your times to precious to spend travelling to Scotland to view it, but would have thought their would be plenty of 10 year old type tractors for sale near enough that you could inspect

Just thought it was fair to make him aware there's a thread naming and criticising him on social media. Give him a chance to defend himself or sort the situation out.

Hope someone would do the same for me if it happens.
Fair enough, it wouldnt be something i would do but each to there own .

The issue isn't the faults , it's the sellers refusal to remedy them
We all get issues buying s/h tractors , these pre delivery inspections are for the fairys
