silage sheets

just pricing up some silage sheets and looking at the SILOSTOP products. Have always used VISQUEEN sheets in the past and get good results with minimal waste, most waste is generally around the walls, We use a cling seal sheet and a new top sheet every year and also have new side sheets on every wall.

on last years prices ,

silostop cling sheet is 3 times dearer

side sheets 3.5 times dearer

top sheet 6.5 times dearer ( bit different as it negates the use of a top cling sheet i believe so small saving and work come sheeting time)

i know that they might be slightly dearer this year compared to last but seems a big difference, what sheets are others using and do you highly recommend giving SILOSTOP sheets a try?

Why would they increase 300%?
Nothing else even close to that increase... Time to reuse the sheet I think...
not saying they've increased in price, I'm saying the price difference between brands is large and wanting to know if people have made the switch and stuck with silostop and seen a big benefit .
example 16mx50m cling seal -£140+VAT (2023 price)
16Xm50m SILOSTOP OXYGEN BARRIER-£440+Vat
are they that different? or that much better?

Oh I see well I just use the standard visqueen sheets doubled up achieves what I'd consider very good protection with gravel bags on top.
But I'm just a livestock farmer so my standards are probably considerably lower than some...

I sell Silostop.

If you would like to message me with what you are after (type of sheet, size & number of each) I will happily have a look to see what I can do for you.

They are all excellent products.

We use Ecosyl potassium sorbate additive, visqueen side sheet, cling film and new top sheet every 2 years and get minimal waste, thats dear enough.
That Silostop is some money just for the top sheet, youd want to use it for the next 10 year!

If in doubt, keep it simple!

Visqueen side sheet, cling film top and visqueen top with nets and bags. No additive and no wastage.
We buy new every year

Used the silostop orange cling film last few years, does seem a bit tougher than cling seal if your taking it on and off a few times, visqueen black sheet on top, heavy net and gravel bags.

Hadn't looked at the price for this year yet tho! Tried the double layer stuff (think silo stop max?) didn't think was very good and side sheets seem expensive, concrete isn't oxygen permeable.

Good morning all, I am replying OBO Silostop (I am an employee!) , silage sheets come in a range of shapes sizes qualities and price points and of course you will know which system suits you best.

I just wanted to just mention the elements of Silostop which puts them in the premium end of the options.

Silostop sheets have a very low (almost zero) OTR which is the Oxygen Transmission Rate of the plastic, by keeping the OTR as low as possible through the use of technical resins we stop the interaction between the surface of the silage and oxygen in the atmosphere. Its a similar sort of plastic you might find being used to store long life bread products (and it achieves the same results)

Oxygen transmission also effects dry matter losses which aren't necessarily visible, so you have this saving as well.

Other benefits are that this can be achieved with a single layer of plastic, the strengths of the sheets and the availability and stocking of sizes.

I enjoy the forum and know now one wants to read a sales pitch so you can always call us or get in touch with our distributors for more of this information and the multiple pieces of research which have been done.
