A shame you're not closer! We're due a private kill this year and it's getting very hard to find any service within 50 miles that'll do it now.

My neighbours daughter owns a Hereford cow which runs in my herd. She gets her calves slaughtered when ready and sells to friends and family. She had one done 2 years ago by an artisan farm butchery who will remain nameless. Sent in an AA cross Hereford and were told when they went to collect that it had been stolen by staff. They offered a cheap dairy carcass instead! Eventually settled for cash compensation.

We understand the need for services like ours hence this is our second depot …

Gutted to hear of your friends troubles with her carcass… :(
Thanks. Such things give the trade a bad name.

The whole process has given her a good insight into the process and economics of the beef industry over the last 5 years though. Her parents don't farm but her grandparents do. She's in her final year now at Newcastle doing a degree in Agricultural Business and Economics.

She does all the business herself on these kills and it was her who eventually "settled" for £3200 in compensation for her lost carcass (based on what she had sold the previous 2 for).

Best regards.
